Docker is a software technology providing containers, promoted by the company Docker, Inc. Docker provides an additional layer of abstraction and automation of operating-system-level virtualization on Windows and Linux.

As a part of the IRIS Python 2024 contest, my colleague Damir and I went with an idea to build a platform called ShelterShare for connecting victims and volunteers for shelter requests . To do so we chose django as a framework and proceeded to build the first version with 3 different docker containers, django, iris and nginx which would then utilize IRIS as a pure Database engine via the beautifly composed django_iris (cudos to Dimitry). As we were progressing fast, we decided to explore the option of running it within the same container as IRIS by utilizing WSGI added in 2024.1. We knew ahead

Hi Community,
In this article, I will introduce my application iris-RAG-Gen .

Iris-RAG-Gen is a generative AI Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) application that leverages the functionality of IRIS Vector Search to personalize ChatGPT with the help of the Streamlit web framework, LangChain, and OpenAI. The application uses IRIS as a vector store.

In our previous article, we have explored the most common Kubernetes components:

  • We started with the pods and the services we needed to communicate with each other.
  • Then, we examined the  Ingress component used to Route traffic into the cluster.
  • We also skimmed through an external configuration using ConfigMaps and Secrets.
  • Afterward, we analyzed Data persistence with the help of Volumes.
  • Finally, we took a quick look at pod blueprints with such replicating mechanisms as Deployments and StatefulSets (the latter is employed specifically for such stateful applications as databases).

In the previous article, we saw in detail about Connectors, that let user upload their file and get it converted into embeddings and store it to IRIS DB. In this article, we'll explore different retrieval options that IRIS AI Studio offers - Semantic Search, Chat, Recommender and Similarity.

New Updates  ⛴️

  • Added installation through Docker. Run `./build.sh` after cloning to get the application & IRIS instance running in your local
  • Connect via InterSystems Extension in vsCode - Thanks to @Evgeny Shvarov
  • Added FAQ's in the home page that covers the basic info for new users

When IRIS 2023.2 reaches general availability, we’ll be making some improvements to how we tag and distribute IRIS & IRIS for Health containers.

IRIS containers have been tagged using the full build number format, for example 2023.1.0.235.1.  Customers have been asking for more stable tags, so they don’t need to change their dockerfiles/Kubernetes files every time a new release is made.  With that in mind, we’re making the following changes to how we tag container images.

A few weeks ago I posted an announcement about a JavaScript-based interface for our mg_web WebServer interfacing addon module.  mg_web isn't just restricted to use by JavaScript developers though.  Many readers will be ObjectScript developers who are more used to using CSP as their web gateway.  Some may even have much older legacy WebLink-based applications (and be wondering how to support them given that IRIS does not support WebLink).

This article aims to provide some more information on mg_web and to explain why it's worth a look for ObjectScript developers.

Announcement Rob Tweed · Apr 5, 2024

Hot on the heels of our announcement last week about our ultra-high-performance mg-dbx-napi JavaScript interface for IRIS, we are now pleased to announce a significant new technology - mg_web - which not only represents a new paradigm for JavaScript Web Frameworks, but also delivers significantly higher performance than even the fastest of the established Node.js Web Frameworks, whilst leveraging all the benefits of the big-three industry-standard Web Servers.

I recently had the need to monitor from HealthConnect the records present in a NoSQL database in the Cloud, more specifically Cloud Firestore, deployed in Firebase. With a quick glance I could see how easy it would be to create an ad-hoc Adapter to make the connection taking advantage of the capabilities of Embedded Python, so I got to work.

Preparing the environment

To start, we need an instance of the database on which we can perform the tests. By accessing the Firebase console, we have created a new project to which we have added the Firestore database.

In this article, we will cover below topics:

  • What is Kubernetes?
  • Main Kubernetes (K8s) Components

What is Kubernetes?

Kubernetes is an open-source container orchestration framework developed by Google. In essence, it controls container speed and helps you manage applications consisting of multiple containers. Additionally, it allows you to operate them in different environments, e.g., physical machines, virtual machines, Cloud environments, or even hybrid deployment environments.

What problems does it solve?

I am fairly new to using Docker, and instead of trying to get IIS, a Web Gateway, and Docker desktop working within my Windows environment, I thought I would try running it in a WSL2 Ubuntu environment since this is similar to how use it on my server. I have installed Apache and the Web Gateway on my WSL2 Ubuntu.

As most of you probably already know, since approximately the end of 2022 InterSystems IRIS included the columnar storage functionality to its database, well, in today's article we are going to put it to the test in comparison to the usual row storage.

Columnar Storage

What is the main characteristic of this type of storage? Well, if we consult the official documentation we will see this fantastic table that explains the main characteristics of both types of storage (by rows or by columns):

I want to address the nasty problems about reading a flat text in ASCII, UTF*
explicitly excluding HTML, EBCDIC, and other encoding.
According to Wikipedia there are at least 8 variations of control characters.

  • CR+LF is typical for Windows
  • LF is typical for the Linux/UNIX world
  • CR is Mac's favorite

As you can deduct from the names the inspiration comes from mechanical typewriters.

Question Evgeny Shvarov · Feb 3, 2024

Hi folks!

Sometimes building an images via docker-compose.yml can take significant time.

And often after a minute or two of waiting it turns out that ports listed in docker-compose are busy and you need to start building process again with different ports or to turn down processes that took it.

Is there a way to check ports listed in docker-compose BEFORE starting the image baking process?

How do you deal with this problem?

Hi Community

This document mainly enriches the content of the previous article and introduces the use of the application.

Perhaps you have already read the previous article, but I still want to say,
After completing the initialization operation (including model creation and training), the Fhir HepatitisC Predict application then predicts HepatitisC

First

You need to input some information on the application, of course, only the results of some checks, not including privacy data.

Hello,

How can I send a request via a SOCKS5 proxy in IRIS, using, for example, EnsLib.REST.Operation?

Background

I need to access APIs inside my corporate network, to which I don't have direct access from my home office. I've set up a SOCKS5 proxy via SSH on my host machine like this:

ssh -D 9999 server.corporate.com

I can then make requests with curl to the APIs I need:

curl -x socks5h://localhost:9999 https://api.corporate.com/api/some/endpoint

And I receive a response. Simple!

Also, inside the containerized IRIS, I can execute the request:
