Visualization refers to the techniques used to communicate data or information by encoding it as visual objects (e.g., points, lines or bars) contained in graphics. The goal is to communicate information clearly and efficiently to users.

gj :: configExplorer is a new VS Code extension integrating with Server Manager and leveraging Structurizr to produce configuration diagrams of your servers.

Here's a short introductory video.

By using the InterSystems IRIS Native API for Node.js it avoids the need for any support code to be installed on the servers. This technology choice also qualifies it for entry into the current Developer Community contest.

The initial release focuses on two aspects of server configuration:

  • Namespaces and databases
  • ECP connectivity

Suggestions for what to add next are welcome, as is general feedback.

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m excited to share the project I’ve submitted to the current InterSystems .Net, Java, Python, and JavaScript Contest — it’s called IRIStool and Data Manager, and you can find it on the InterSystems Open Exchange and on my GitHub page.

In my previous article introducing gj :: configExplorer I flagged up how an apparent bug in the Windows elements of the Native API for Node.js means it's not currently available to run in VS Code on a Windows desktop. In a comment on that article I offered a workaround, but this requires a Docker-equipped Linux host you can SSH to.

If you don't have a suitable target it's now possible to leverage your local Windows Docker Desktop. Here's how:

  1. Open a new VS Code window.

Monitoring your IRIS deployment is crucial. With the deprecation of System Alert and Monitoring (SAM), a modern, scalable solution is necessary for real-time insights, early issue detection, and operational efficiency. This guide covers setting up Prometheus and Grafana in Kubernetes to monitor InterSystems IRIS effectively.

This guide assumes you already have an IRIS cluster deployed using the InterSystems Kubernetes Operator (IKO), which simplifies deployment, integration and mangement.

Why Prometheus and Grafana?

Hello!

This article is a small overview of a tool that helps to understand classes and their structure inside the InterSystems products: from IRIS to Caché, Ensemble, HealthShare.

In short, it visualizes a class or an entire package, shows the relations between classes and provides all the possible information to developers and team leads without making them go to Studio and examine the code there.

Hi Community,
In this article, I will introduce my application iris-DataViz
iris-DataViz is an Exploratory Data Analysis and Visualization Streamlit Application that leverages the functionality of IRIS embedded python and SQLAlchemy to interact with IRIS, as well as the PyGWalker python library for data analysis and data Visualization. PyGWalker (Python Graphic Walker) is an interactive data visualization library built for Python, aiming to bring the ease and functionality of Tableau-style drag-and-drop visualization into Python environments.

I would like to share with you a little trick to customize how messages are displayed in the Message Viewer. In particular, how you can display messages as JSON (instead of the default XML representation).

Messages are objects that are used to communicate interoperability productions components. In my example I have defined a message that later I serialize as JSON to send to an external API. This message is defined as a regular message and also as a %JSON.Adaptor so I can export / import directly to or from JSON.

According Wikipedia a mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information into a hierarchy, showing relationships among pieces of the whole. It is often created around a single concept, drawn as an image in the center of a blank page, to which associated representations of ideas such as images, words and parts of words are added. Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept, and other ideas branch out from those major ideas. Mind maps can also be drawn by hand, either as "notes" during a lecture, meeting or planning session, for example, or as higher quality pictures when

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to prettify the JSON streams in the incoming HTTP messages so that they are more readable in Visual Trace?

The HTTP messages sent by many software aren't prettified and are displayed like this in the Visual Trace:

On the other hand, other software like Postman prettify the messages and they are displayed in this way:

I know there is a JSON Formatter class, however what I would like is an automatic setting that automatically prettifies the JSON displayed in the Visual Trace without having to go through code.

Is there anything similar?

Apache Superset is a modern data exploration and data visualization platform. Superset can replace or augment proprietary business intelligence tools for many teams. Superset integrates well with a variety of data sources.

And now it is possible to use with InterSystems IRIS as well.

An online demo is available and it uses IRIS Cloud SQL as a data source.

Our team has had success creating and publishing Power BI reports using an ODBC connection to an IRIS database, but there have been concerns about the responsiveness of these reports.

As an attempt to improve responsiveness, I'm trying out the "DirectQuery" connection using the InterSystems IRIS connector available in our version of Power BI Desktop (September 2021).

The version of IRIS I'm connecting with is "IRIS for Windows (x86-64) 2022.2"

I built a dashboard to show hourly instrument capacities based on a term list. The term list consists of the TestInstrumentID and the number of tests that instrument can perform in 1 hour. The calculation works correctly and the data is accurate but periodically if you go to check the dashboard the percentages all get changed to 100% across every hour. If you check it later or add an additional site to the filter then the percentages correct themselves. I don't know what's causing this or how to troubleshoot it because it does calculate correctly but is not consistent.

Today we will talk about InterSystems Reports. This is a BI system that provides you with tools to create static reports and export them to different file formats. We will see how it works using the DC Analytics public analytical sample as an example. In this article, we will examine how to familiarize yourself with the reports available in the repository, how to make a new report based on a ready-made data structure, and how to prepare a data structure from scratch.

To begin with, you need a licensed copy of InterSystems Reports.

Hello,

We are very interested about studying DICOM in deep, both the standar itself and how it is related to HealthShare.

Could you please point us to some good references: documentation, courses, books, pdfs, explanations; to understand what is this standard about and how works.

Thanks for your replies

We have read:

When we are at the starting stage of BI project development, we must remember that it is crucial to select the right tool for its implementation. Today we want to show you how one of the principal functionality of dashboards is implemented in different BI systems. Let's talk about drill down from both points of view: the dashboard development, and the convenience and clarity for the end user. We will touch on the applications of this technology in IRIS BI, Power BI and Tableau.

Hi all,

I am trying to use a %Status property on some of my Response classes. If the execution of a service goes wrong, I set the %Status property on Response with the value $$$ERROR($$$GeneralError, "pre-defined error message").

When I check the visual trace for this message and look for the %Status (property "status_code" on the image), it is displayed like this:

If I select to display the Body of the Response, I get the 'readable' form of %Status:

According to the documentation, this is expected as %Status properties are encoded in base64 during Projection to XML.

Prometheus is one of the monitoring systems adapted for collecting time series data.

Its installation and initial configuration are relatively easy. The system has a built-in graphic subsystem called PromDashfor visualizing data, but developers recommend using a free third-party product called Grafana. Prometheus can monitor a lot of things (hardware, containers, various DBMS's), but in this article, I would like to take a look at the monitoring of a Caché instance (to be exact, it will be an Ensemble instance, but the metrics will be from Caché). If you are interested – read along.

There are several options how to deliver user interface(UI) for DeepSee BI solutions. The most common approaches are:

  • use native DeepSee Dashboards, get web UI in Zen and deliver it in your web apps.
  • use DeepSee REST API, get and build your own UI widgets and dashboards.

The 1st approach is good because of the possibility to build BI dashboards without coding relatively fast, but you are limited with preset widgets library which is expandable but with a lot of development efforts.
