Whichever way you want to look at it, their numbers are impressive... growing revenue year-on-year of 69% is amazing... and now they are opening DCs in Canada and India...

AWS is growing ridiculously fast. Microsoft announced their Q2 earnings yesterday (Microsoft’s financial year ends in June)

and their cloud business grew by 10% compared to Q1.
yup! They have become, over 2015, a very serious contender in the IaaS cloud arena... as long as they keep open and let people be innovative ;) they have a tendency... IMO :)
I like Digital Ocean cloud. We use it for PoCs, demos and student projects. IT's convenient, robust and pretty cheap.
I like DO too. Great for POC and test cases as you said. Also, they have great documentation on setting things up not strictly related to their infrastructure like firewalls, Docker, Mesos etc.

Not just for test/dev/demo either... Caché can support highly resilient enterprise applications in cloud.. I recently posted an article how to use database mirroring in a cloud without the built-in Virtual IP (VIP) to provide rapid failover for high availability and disaster recovery - even between availability zones and/or geo-regions.
