My other thought would be to (carefully!) take out and release the oddDEF lock for the class

Hi Ali,

I can imagine cases where you'd want to deploy just the built artifact, but we've had success building on deploy. We use an angular CCREventHandler class that detects ng changes in a deployed itemset and kicks off all the needed build steps.
