InterSystems announces its second preview, as part of the developer preview program for the 2023.2 release.  This release will include InterSystems IRIS and InterSystems IRIS for Health.

Highlights

Many updates and enhancements have been added in 2023.2 and there are also brand-new capabilities, such as Time-Aware Modeling, enhancements of Foreign Tables, and the ability to use Ready-Only Federated Tables. Note that some of these features or improvements may not be available in this current developer preview.

I'm pleased to announce version 2.6.0 of the VS Code ObjectScript extension, containing a number of enhancements that make a developer's life easier. Some highlights are described below. As always, find the full list of modifications in the CHANGELOG, including many bug and vulnerability fixes.

Switch namespaces quickly

Thanks to @Olli Tanskanen at partner company JediSoft Oy for this enhancement! You can now switch namespaces from the Server Actions menu (when using client-side folders only).

Fast, asynchronous server-side search

InterSystems is putting more emphasis on promoting our Early Access Program (EAP), in which users volunteer to work with new software before it becomes generally available. In fact, we will once again be promoting the program at Global Summit.  

The software could be a full InterSystems IRIS release, but is usually focused on a new capability about which we want to collect feedback. The terms and requirements for joining an Early Access Program vary with the the software being evaluated.

InterSystems has corrected a defect that can cause corruption of databases and journal files on AIX systems with IBM POWER8 or later POWER processors. This defect can be triggered only when database or journal encryption is in use.

 To trigger this defect, the following conditions are required:

• The environment uses database or journal encryption
• The environment also uses data-element encryption
• An encryption key used for data-element encryption has been deactivated

InterSystems is pleased to announce the 2023.1 release of InterSystems IRIS Data Platform, InterSystems IRIS for Health, HealthShare Health Connect, and InterSystems IRIS Studio are now Generally Available (GA).

2023.1 is an Extended Maintenance (EM) release. Many updates and enhancements have been added in 2023.1.

InterSystems Kubernetes Operator (IKO) 3.5 is now Generally Available.  IKO 3.5 adds significant new functionality along with numerous bug fixes.  Highlights include:

IAM 3.2 Release

InterSystems API Manager (IAM) version 3.2.1 is now Generally Available.  In additional to bug fixes and minor improvements IAM 3.2 adds new plug-ins that might be of interest to IRIS customers.

InterSystems is committed to providing high quality product support to customers for all products, new and old.   As products age – Caché is now 25 – that support will evolve.

InterSystems IRIS was released in 2018 and it is the successor to Caché and Ensemble.  Many Caché/Ensemble customers have migrated to IRIS or have plans to do so in the next few years.  Customers continuing to use Caché or Ensemble should be aware of the following important announcement:

InterSystems announces the Maintenance Release (MR) of Caché, Ensemble and HSAP 2018.1.8. This is a maintenance release with many updates across a wide variety of areas.

2022.3 is a Continuous Delivery (CD) release. Many updates and enhancements have been added in 2022.3, in SQL management, cloud integration, Kafka and JMS adapters, the SQL Loader, and other areas. The new FHIR SQL Builder and enhancements to Columnar Storage are included, but both are still experimental features (not for production, with an active Early Access Program in place).

InterSystems periodically updates our software release policies and practices to adjust to customer needs.

We're now changing our maintenance release cadence in order to be more predictable for customers and partners, and tweaking a few other areas.

This article summarizes the release cadence for our Data Platforms products and recent changes to it, and announces a few new updates.

Why change?

InterSystems Supported Platforms Update Feb-2023

Welcome to the very first Supported Platforms Update!  We often get questions about recent and upcoming changes to the list of platforms and frameworks that are supported by the InterSystems IRIS data platform.  This update aims to share recent changes as well as our best current knowledge on upcoming changes, but predicting the future is tricky business and this shouldn’t be considered a committed roadmap.

InterSystems has corrected an issue that can cause InterSystems IRIS® and Caché to not take advantage of large pages for shared memory on Windows, even though these products report that large pages are allocated. This can have detrimental effects on system performance.

The issue results from a change in Windows 10 that requires modification of InterSystems IRIS® and Caché. Note that this issue also affects all InterSystems products that are based on InterSystems IRIS® or Caché. The issue occurs on the following versions of Windows:

            Windows 10 (version 1703 and above)

Early Access Program (EAP) is a way to to deliver specific features early to a group of people who will test and provide feedback on that feature.

One of those EAPs is about the the discontinuation of the Apache web server installation (a.k.a. NoPWS) from IRIS product installers. If you're interested in this topic and want to test it, the way to register is to send an email to nopws@intersystems.com. Use this same email for any other feedback.

Once you get a confirmation email, you'll see the EAPs you have access in the Evaluation Services website. You must log in to see the content.

At InterSystems, we believe in the responsible disclosure of recently discovered security vulnerabilities.  We provide timely information to our customers, while keeping it out of the hands of people that may misuse it. We also understand each customer has different requirements related to the resolution of security issues.

As we start 2023, we have made two significant changes to our approach to security vulnerability corrections that I’d like to highlight:

1. Security vulnerability patches will be included in every release
2. Improved customer notification
