Question Jorge Gea Martínez · Oct 22

Hi,

I'm trying to run some scripting in Windows. I'm using an instance of the IRISHealth community.

I'm just trying to run a simple sequence of commands so I can run irissession in a non-interactive mode, like:

irissession.exe IRISHEALTH -U "%SYS" < "myprogram.iris"

The contents of my program.iris are, for instance, these ones, to run an online backup:

set$namespace="%SYS"set cbk = "C:\Test1.cbk"set log = "C:\Test1.log"w$$BACKUP^DBACK("","F","MyBackup",cbk,"Y",log,"NOINPUT","Y","Y", 1000, "Test1")
HALT

The execution starts, but then gets completely hung, I see infinitely:

I have a personal copy of Cache which I use to help me with certain things. The instance resides on my Windows desktop. The apps I use a web enabled. It would be great if I could access my apps via web browser from my laptop without having to keep a copy of Cache on my laptop. It would make it difficult to keep the databases synced. So, if I restart my Cache instance, then I can use get to my apps by entering the url: http://ipadd:57772/csp/user/myapp.cls. but later, after having closed the browser on my laptop, if I try to open a browser session on my desktop I get license limit exceeded. Windows 10/Windows Server 2016:

I am currently monitoring our license use with a new rest-service I am implementing when I noticed my licenses on my instance being consumed and never released by Visual Studio Code.

For this I restarted my Instance, watched the licenses for a while, which remained at 1 during idle (I am guessing my MMGT Portal session uses 1)
But when I connect to my Instance using Visual Studio Code (with my Instance setup in the extension already), suddenly 2 licenses are used. (I am guessing 1 for the "studio" and 1 for a terminal session, so far so good)

I recently helped a site investigate a problem that appeared after they upgraded their Windows instance of Caché from 2015.1 to 2017.1. A terminal session launched from the server's desktop cube was unable to run OS-level commands using the $ZF(-1) function. For instance, using the no-op command "REM" as follows:

write $zf(-1,"rem")

was returning -1, indicating that the Windows command could not be issued.

How to create an ODBC connection on your native Windows laptop to IRIS running on a Windows VM on the same computer, test the connection, and pull data from IRIS into Excel.

Recently I learned that Excel can connect to external databases via ODBC. This includes basically any ODBC data source. Since IRIS speaks ODBC via the ODBC API, we can take advantage of the InterSystems ODBC Driver to establish an ODBC connection to IRIS on Windows that Excel can utilize.

Dear All,

I am currently part of a team that is developing an application using Microsoft PowerApps as the front end and IRIS as the backend.  Effectively that frontend screens, which are house and an Azure serve, call a series of REST interfaces exposed by IRIS from a physical Microsoft server.  During the development stage we have not had any security in place but now we need to secure the application using a single sign on.  PowerApps relies on Microsoft Entra for its security both LDAP and OAuth.  Has anyone in the community connected IRIS to Microsoft Entra?

TL;DR: My comment to Microsoft when I voted:Our team has implemented most of what we need for source management of Power BI Report files in Perforce. The missing piece? Automated creation of ".pbix" files from ".pbit" template files that can deployed to the Power BI Report Server. Let's get the manual “Power BI Desktop->File->Save As” step out of the process to make report deployment totally automated.

As most of you have heard already, InterSystems announced the deprecation of Studio with the release of IRIS 2023.2. A detailed deprecation plan was revealed in November, and we are now hitting the first milestone in that plan. Starting with 2024.2 preview kits, Windows kits will no longer contain Studio. This means that new installations using this kit will not install Studio, and upgrading an existing instance to version 2024.2 (or later) will remove Studio from the instance’s bin directory.

Hi

I've installed Ensemble 2018 then enabled IIS from Win features, then realized that CSPGateway doesn't exit so I downloaded and installed CSPGateway-2018 from WRC.

so now I'm trying to set up a Website application and facing some issues, and I think IIS and CSPGateway in inetpub are not connecting or synchronising properly but mostly is accessing Web gateway via IIS my understanding is that I can access using the following url http://machinename/csp/bin/Systems/Module.cxw  using my machinename or IP but it's not happening.

For your convenience InterSystems is posting the typical install steps for the operating systems that are supported with InterSystems IRIS.

For Microsoft Windows, please consult the InterSystems product documentation.

The IRIS installer will detect if a web server is installed on the same machine, which gives you the option to automatically have the web server configured.

All Apache installations will require sudo (recommended) or root permission to install the web server. This requirement supports recommended best practices.

Question Paul D'Amato · Jun 18, 2023

what happened is, I selected a user to investigate their entries. I didn't enter a start date.

After hitting search, the query timed out, (or i cancelled it, I don't recall).

Now, when I go to that page, the browser processes and nothing is displayed.

I cleared my browser's cache, and I still get a blank page.

I'm running on Win10.

I use Chrome as my default browser. The problem also happens in Fire Fox.

i can log in as a different user and the page displays as expected.

How can I correct this situation?

Thanks!

I'm trying to update the hosts file on Windows in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

I know that in Linux if you update the hosts file, you sometimes need to restart the Network Manager for the changes to take effect.

So my question is that is there a similar thing that we need to do on Windows or do the changes take effect as soon as the file is saved?

When you install an IRIS or Caché instance on Windows Server, you'll usually need to install it under a specific user account that has network access permissions. This is very handy when you needs to access network resources for creating files or directly accessing printers.

TL;DR: see key takeaways at the bottom!

When you need to change the Windows user account the IRIS/Caché service is running as, you can configure (after installation):

On a developer's laptop, having had two or three Ensemble installs with different settings/config changes made, and encountering unexplained errors compiling classes, wanting to scrub as much of the previous installs off the machine before doing any fresh installation... But can't find clear documentation on doing a complete uninstall!

Have stopped the server.

Am I safe to remove C:\InterSystems\Ensemble (for the instance installed into that folder)?

What other files/Registry/locations contain references to an Ensemble install, and are there tools or documentation on clearing those out?

I have recently come across a problem saving TrakCare reports as PDF files while using the MS Edge browser on a Windows 10 PC. Whenever a user selected the Save to PDF option the window Tab would crash and reset. The event was trapped and viewable in the Windows Events Viewer and showed a Fault in the AcroPDFImpl64.dll. Even a little research on the Internet showed me that this has been an issue for many and for quite some time – not just in TrakCare, but many other non-InterSystems applications.

Hi! As a developer who was forced to move from Mac to Windows (temporary) I found some things a bit confusing. In this article I would like to talk about some tweaks I made to make my experience smoother. I think it can help not only Mac users who need to use Windows environment (for ex. in VMs), but also can help some Windows users to make some things more convenient. Of course, all the points are subjective, the best setup is one that works for you.

All the tweaks are related to Windows 10 as I don’t have an access to Windows 11 at the moment.

I have recently started making more use of Docker Desktop on my Windows 11 workstation, particularly in conjunction with VS Code's Remote - Containers extension and the iris-python-template repo from @Guillaume Rongier

Sometimes the container would start smoothly, but other times it would fail and report being unable to use a port.

Eventually I tracked the problem down. The Windows NAT Driver service apparently uses an OS facility to reserve a large range of ports.

Here's what an admin-level command shell showed when the container wouldn't start:

It's possible to enable Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V in IRIS Terminal for Windows.

To do that, open Terminal and select Edit > User Settings and enable Windows edit accelerators. This settingspecifies whether the Terminal enables the common Windows edit shortcuts (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Shift+V), in addition to the basic Terminal edit shortcuts (Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert).

After that Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V would work.

Also <SYNTAX> errors after incorrect copy/paste go away.

This time I want to talk about something not specific to InterSystems IRIS, but that I think is important if you want to work with Docker and your server at work is a PC or laptop with Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise.

Getting this error when starting up Caché:

I've recently deleted several Caché namespaces to clear up space, turned Caché off, and then this started happening. Caché cube is grey, but only the start Caché option is unavailable.

There are also the following logs in the mgr/cconsole.log file. I can provide more if necessary.

Hey everyone!

I recently learnt something new while working with WRC on an issue, and I wanted to share with everyone on the off chance it could help someone else.

Scenario:

Files are being inexplicably written to a folder on your server and, due to the number of files in the folder and general system throughput, it is not possible to work through the files to track down the source.
