Front-end web development is the practice of converting data to a graphical interface, through the use of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so that users can view and interact with that data.

Dear community, I have a confession to make. I have not gotten over Zen yet. Alas, all good things must come to an EOF, so I am currently learning about Angular. I am working on proving to myself that with the right back end and Angular components, I can deliver to myself and my team a very Zen-like experience in this environment. Since this is my first attempt, here is a fair warning: I will be providing some rather large code samples before discussing them. Please warm up your mouse and hand for extensive upcoming scrolling! Also, a note on the code snippets: many of them are labeled

Before we start with some intermediate and advanced topics, I would like to sum up some more general points. They are subjective, of course, so I will be happy to discuss them if you have other opinion or better arguments for any of them.

The list is not comprehensive and this is intended, cause I will cover some topics in future articles.

Tip 1. Follow official styleguide

For a long time I have wanted to learn the Django framework, but another more pressing project has always taken priority. Like many developers, I use python when it comes to machine learning, but when I first learned web programming PHP was still enjoying primacy, and so when it was time for me to pick up a new complicated framework for creating web applications to publish my machine learning work, I still turned to PHP. For a while I have been using a framework called Laravel to build my websites, and this PHP framework introduced me to the modern Model-View-Controller pattern of web

Hi developers!

This will be a very short article as in April 2025 with Lovable and other Prompt-to-UI tools it becomes possible to build the frontend with prompting. Even to the folks like me who is not familiar with modern UI techics at all.

Well, I know at least the words javascript, typescript and ReactJS, so in this very short article we will be building the ReactJS UI to InterSystems FHIR server with Lovable.ai.

Let's go!

Is there a way to use a property of the type %Persistent class in a %ZEN.Component.page class?
Example:

// Data classClass PersistentClass Extends %Persistent
{
    Property Value As%String;
}
// Page classClass ClassName Extends%ZEN.Component.page
{
  Property TestProperty As PersistentClass
}

The problem is that when using it the described in the example.
The property can be set in a Method like this:

Hi Community,

This is a detailed, candid walkthrough of the IRIS AI Studio platform. I speak out loud on my thoughts while trying different examples, some of which fail to deliver expected results -  which I believe is a need for such a platform to explore different models, configurations and limitations. This will be helpful if you're interested in how to build 'Chat with PDF' or data recommendation systems using IRIS DB and LLM models.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a tool that can be used as a base to create an interface that allows a non-technical user to easily forward messages.

The idea is that the user can find an already sent HL7 message and forward it by modifying specific fields of the message without needing any technical knowledge.

An example would be something similar to the Ensemble search engine, but with a less technical and much more intuitive approach and that only allows changing 1 or 2 fields.

I received some really excellent feedback from a community member on my submission to the Python 2024 contest. I hope its okay if I repost it here:

you build a container more than 5 times the size of pure IRIS

and this takes time

container start is also slow but completes

backend is accessible as described

a production is hanging around

frontend reacts

I fail to understand what is intended to show

the explanation is meant for experts other than me

The submission is here: https://openexchange.intersystems.com/package/IRIS-RAG-App

Question Sylvie Greverend · Mar 14, 2024

In HealthShare, we can add any new application that will show up in the left menu of the viewer. I am trying to add new navigation entries that will look like 'patient search' popup.

- Is Intersystems sharing its HealthShare style? They are using material tags, but it looks very different that the default material themes. I probably can pick up the style, but perhaps there is an official way.
- Is there a way to do a popup like patient search? So far I see, a new option is associated to an url not some javascript code?

Thank you for your help.

Intro

Most server-client communication on the web is based on a request and response structure. The client sends a request to the server and the server responds to this request. The WebSocket protocol provides a two-way channel of communication between a server and client, allowing servers to send messages to clients without first receiving a request. For more information on the WebSocket protocol and its implementation in InterSystems IRIS, see the links below.

Now, let’s say you can’t access the terminal or simply you just rather execute it from a web interface. In this article, I will show you how to execute terminal commands from a simple web page.

For example, in the image below you see how we execute $zv on a webpage:

This is mostly possible due to the XECUTE command in Caché ObjectSCript. This command takes a string as a parameter and tries to execute it. This is the command used from the webpage, to execute what is being passed from the left navigation menu.

In this article I'll cover testing and debugging Caché web applications (mainly REST) with external tools. Second part covers Caché tools.

You wrote server-side code and want to test it from a client or already have a web application and it doesn't work. Here comes debugging. In this article I'll go from the easiest to use tools (browser) to the most comprehensive (packet analyzer), but first let's talk a little about most common errors and how they can be resolved.

Everyone familiar with InterSystems Ensemble, an integration and application development platform, knows what the Ensemble Workflow subsystem is and how useful it can be for automating human interaction. For those who don’t know Ensemble (and/or Workflow), I will briefly describe its capabilities (others may skip this part and learn how they can use the Workflow interface in Angular.js).

In this article, I would show how you can upload and download files from InterSystems products via http.

The questions about working with files over http arise fairly often on community and I'm usually linking to my FileServer project which demonstrates file upload/download but I'd like to talk a bit more on how we can serve and receive files from InterSystems products.

Downloading a file

If you have a file in on a file system and you know the path you can serve it from REST or CSP context by calling this method:

Hi,

Over time I have created an house-automation solution based on IRIS:
90% of my code is pure ObjectScript, with the most recent 10% being the use of Python libraries for specific tasks.
All of the above being terminal based up to now.
I would like to expose some configuration options / parameters via a very simple web page, to be serviced with the IRIS private web service (so I don't want to use an external Webserver just for this..)

Hi Community

I have created a simple package that allows the use of Cache with the Laravel Framework.

From my initial testing everything seems to be operating smoothly but I would like to appeal to the PHP users in the community to help me improve this package.

For those of you out there who have time and would be interested in this, please visit the repo at https://github.com/jeandormehl/laracache

Thanks in advance

Hi! My name is Sergei Sarkisian and I’m creating Angular frontend for more than 7 years working in InterSystems. As the Angular is very popular framework, our developers, customers and partners often choose it as part of the stack for their applications.

I would like to start series of articles which will cover different aspects of Angular: concepts, how-to, best practices, advanced topics and more. This series will target people who already familiar with Angular and wouldn’t cover basic concepts. As I’m in the process of building articles roadmap, I would like to begin with highlighting some important features in most recent Angular release.

Hi! Today I would like to talk about one of the most important architectural patterns in Angular.

The pattern itself is not related to Angular directly, but as Angular is component-driven framework, this pattern is one of the most essential for building modern Angular applications.

Container-Presentation pattern

It is believed that good components should be small, focused, independent, testable and most important - reusable.

Suppose you have developed your own web app with InterSystems technologies stack and now want to perform a captcha validation on the client side in order to determine whether or not the user is human and make it safer. There are some modern frameworks to address the captcha issue, however most part of them needs internet access to generate codes and sometimes are complex to implement. Take this as basic example considering that image recognition has gotten too good. That's why you nowadays you tend to see more pattern recognition captchas than mere reading ones. has anyone done a simple angular searchbar with a REST API on Caché in the back?

I've done this Let's write an Angular 1.x app with a Caché REST backendhere in the community and it

works fine for me.

The REST in Caché is already developed but im hanging at the searchbar in Angular, don't know how to solve this.

Has somebody an example to help me out?

Any help would be appreciated.
